Small Ports Standard

The standard for small fishing ports is being developed specifically for fishing ports without sales facilities. An eligible small fishing port is defined in the table below.

Level  1

Fishing ports that are registered with the local authority and only have facilities such as a quay to allow fishers to land their catch.

Level 2

Fishing ports that are registered with the local authority, have facilities such as a quay to allow fishers to land their catch and facilities to store the catch.

The development of the Standard and Code of Practice

The standard for small fishing ports will start development in autumn 2018. During the early development of the scheme, it became evident that a single standard could not cover all fishing ports due to the varied nature of UK fishing port sand their associated activities. This resulted in the development of two standards; one for small fishing ports and one for large fishing ports.
