FS21-0209 Feb 2009 Lured long lines for Bass

Summary
The system of long lining for bass using monofilament lines and artificial lures was developed in response to the rise in consumer demand for line caught bass. The system developed allows fishermen to target bass with minimal environmental impact, in waters otherwise commercially unviable due to tidal conditions or restrictions on the use of static nets. This new system was trialled for six months, from May to October 2008, on a licensed 17ft open boat, the MFV Caroline, working daily from the North Devon harbour of Clovelly. This followed independent trials during the 2007 season by Sam Rush, the owner and skipper. The project was part funded by Seafish under the Industry Project Fund. This fact sheet reports on the results and observations from this trial.
