A Review of the Second International Conference on Molluscan Shellfish Safety

Summary

The Second International Conference on Molluscan Shellfish Safety was held in Iioilo City, The Philippines on 17-21 November 1997. This was the fourth in a series of conferences relating to Molluscan Shellfish Safety, the others being The First International Conference on Molluscan Shellfish Safety in New South Wales, Australia in 1994 and prior conferences in 1998 and 1992 on Shellfish Depuration in the United States of America and France. The scope of the conference encouraged a range of food safety related issues to be raised and provided researchers and industry with a picture of the range of factors which can affect shellfish safety. This report contains the abstracts of the papers and in some cases a precis of the presentations. The conference recommendations are also reported. An appendix outlining some of the illness associated organisms detailed in the papers is also included. This report has been produced from a scanned original and may therefore contain some formatting and other inaccuracies.
