Mussel Stocking Density Trials — Seafish

Mussel Stocking Density Trials

Summary
During 1987 spatted mussel collector ropes were used as a basis for a suspended cultivation trial to determine the effects of reduced stocking density on the production of marketable size mussels. Excess spat were retubed for ongrowing in Pergolari mesh and marketable yields were compared with those for rope cultivation. Results clearly indicated that reducing stock density and retubing the excess gave a considerable increase in yields of marketable size mussels. This report has been produced from a scanned original and may therefore contain some formatting and other inaccuracies.
