Tilapias are a group of warm water fish species with the second largest share of global aquaculture production after carps.



Tilapias are farmed in more than 100 nations, primarily in tropical and subtropical parts of Asia, Latin America and Africa, and in a variety of systems and environments.

Production in 2018 approached 6 million tonnes worldwide. The main producer countries are China, Indonesia and Egypt.
