Child and forced labour in supply chains present serious and material risks to companies and industries. To help mitigate these risks, the US Department of Labor presents Comply Chain: Business Tools for Labour Compliance in Global Supply Chains. The app targets companies and industry groups seeking to develop robust social compliance systems for their global production. Comply Chain provides practical, step-by-step guidance on eight critical elements of social compliance, and is designed for companies that do not have a social compliance system in place or those needing to strengthen their existing systems. A second app - Sweat and Toil - provides a comprehensive resource documenting child labour and forced labour worldwide.
Significance for seafood businesses:
Not seafood-specific. There are a number of organisations that offer practical business support to help manage socially responsible business practices. There are also various tools and guidance notes available which are free to use which will help buyers manage their supply chain and make a more informed judgement on the risks they face when sourcing seafood.
