Both the Naturland organic agriculture certification program and the Naturland wild fish certification standards have a social component.
Social – The Standards include social responsibility criteria including: respect of basic human rights; freedom to accept or reject employment; freedom of association and/or access to trade unions; equal treatment and opportunities; the complete absence of child labour; basic health and safety provisions; and a number of employment conditions.
Significance for seafood businesses:
Not a seafood-specific standard but does cover organic aquaculture and wild capture. Sourcing seafood that is accredited to a standard that has a social component provides reassurance that the seafood you are purchasing has been independently verified concerning social issues.
