- This course is suitable for managers of depuration centres and similar shellfish businesses.
- Attendees will usually have recently attended a Bivalve Purification Operations course.
- This is a remote course open to individuals from across the industry.
- Course materials include a digital handbook.
- Delivered remotely by Zoom.
- It is one day taught course (usually delivered over two consecutive mornings).
- There is a post course open-book exam.
- People who pass the exam will receive a qualification jointly awarded by The Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland (REHIS) and Seafish.
Information about the course
- This is a two half day training course, occasionally available as a single day programme.
- The course features more than 16 scenarios that might be encountered in a bivalve purification centre inspection.
- Each scenario is discussed in detail by the course participants.
- We consider the science, technology and legislation behind each issue.
- The exam is the same style as that sat by EHOs who take our bivalve shellfish hygiene verification course.
- The online exam is an open book, self administered online exam.
- The pass mark is 100% as "managers are expected to be right all the time".
- The learning materials are currently only available in English.
Course content
A range of scenarios are explored and discussed by the group to establish what reasonable actions should be taken by shellfish purification centres to manage known risks to human health.
Course and exam fee
It costs £200 per person to attend the course. UK seafood businesses can enjoy a 50% subsidy from Seafish (limitations, T&Cs apply).
Qualification awarded by REHIS
Learners who pass the exam will receive a Certificate in Bivalve Purification Management from the REHIS.
Pre-requisites to study this course
It is strongly advised that learners have an Elementary Food Hygiene qualification (or equivalent) and have also attended our Bivalve Purification Operations course before they start this programme.
