We need your help to develop Seafood for Life

We know that our UK seafood industry is full of passionate people with remarkable stories to tell. We’re asking you to share those stories with us so we can create exciting content such as short films, social media assets, stories for the press, fact sheets and more, which celebrate the benefits seafood brings. We will share this content with you so that, together, we can encourage the world to think better of seafood.

We’d love to hear about how your business or the wider industry is having a positive impact, for example:

  • Adopting future-facing approaches to seafood sourcing
  • Offering employment which supports local communities
  • Using innovative technology in seafood production
  • Passing down practices and knowledge through a family business to keep traditions alive
  • Reducing the carbon footprint of seafood products
  • Working with scientists to better understand the health of our oceans
  • Offering consumers the health-boosting, life-enhancing benefits of eating fish
  • And much more…

Please get in touch using the contact details below if you have a positive story to tell.

Seafood for Life: healthy food, responsibly sourced

Why we’re focusing on seafood industry reputation

You told us that supporting seafood industry reputation was vital so it’s one of the priorities in our five-year Corporate Plan.

Our ambition is to enable and empower the seafood industry to respond to the reputational and societal issues that can act as a barrier to consumers choosing seafood. We will do this by scaling up existing efforts and embracing new ones to manage risks and support a thriving sector now and in the future.

Championing industry reputation has never been more important than now. In a world where consumers have a lot of protein choices – both animal and plant-based – the reputation of a sector can be a key driver influencing purchasing decisions. Heightened awareness of environmental and societal challenges faced by the seafood sector are inextricably linked to the financial sustainability of businesses right across the seafood supply chain.
Seafish Corporate Plan 2023-2028

In our 2024-25 Annual Plan we’ve said that we will:

  • Scan the environment for reputational risks to proactively plan responses and manage reactive reputational challenges when they arise.
  • Use our knowledge and expertise of the seafood supply chain to counter misinformation about the industry and about seafood as a nutritious food product.
  • Create content that tells positive stories about seafood and our industry, which can also be used by seafood businesses as part of their own campaigns and marketing.

While Seafood for Life is a new campaign, it builds on years of experience responding to seafood industry reputation issues.

We’ve already shared positive stories from our UK seafood industry from businesses responding to climate change to efforts to recycle end of life gear. As well as highlighting positive stories, we will continue to provide a balanced perspective where misinformation is being shared.

You can view some examples of previous responses in the Related content section below.
