Seafish facilitated the pre-summit workshop at the Seaweb Seafood Summit in Malta on Sunday 31 January 2016. The topic was ‘Social Responsibility in Seafood’. This workshop presented the ongoing or developing initiatives that aim to eliminate social and ethical concerns in the seafood industry, as well as map these initiatives throughout the supply chain. The 2016 Seafood Processing Industry Report presents accurate up-to-date economic data and commentary to serve, where appropriate, as an evidence base for business decisions, policy discussions, and further research. This report provides details on the structure and size of the industry such as regional distribution, size of firms, type of broad fish species processed, type of processing activity undertaken and financial performance.

There is a fundamental requisite to monitor the welfare of the fishing crews working on UK vessels in UK waters, as well as globally. This document highlights the key UK and global legislation that is helping now, or will help in the future, to ensure fishers have minimum standards and decent conditions of work on board fishing vessels.
