Seafood Trends in Commercial Foodservice (2024)
In 2024, seafood servings in GB foodservice showed a promising recovery up 6.6%, outpacing total foodservice which grew servings by 0.4%. Both total foodservice and seafood servings still lag behind pre COVID-19 levels by -19% and -14% respectively. -

Distribution, Abundance and Availability of Blue Whiting in the North East Atlantic
Results of surveys carried out over the last few years indicate that there is a stock of at least several million tonnes of blue whiting in the North-East Atlantic. The only known spawning area of blue whiting is to the West of the British Isles. In this area, the adult fish are concentrated during the late winter and spring months but they then disperse, a major part of the population moving Northwards into the Norwegian Sea. They return to the spawning grounds probably via the Faroe-Shetland channel, around February. This report is a summary of material from various sources, including work published by the Marine laboratory and Torry Research Station Aberdeen. It has been produced in order to collate the earlier published work with recently acquired reports from sources in Norway. This report has been produced from a scanned original and may therefore contain some formatting and other inaccuracies. In cases where this affects the technical content, a paper copy of the original report can still be obtained from Seafish. -
Guidelines for the handling of chilled fish by retailers
The Guidelines cover the technical aspects of fish purchase, handling and selling, and of premises, vehicles and equipment, and apply to the trades of the traditional fishmonger, the supermarket, the mobile van operator and the market stall operator. Necessary background information is given and detailed recommendations are made. The Guidelines cover chilled fish which has not been pre-packed for retail sale, including wet fish, smoked fish, cooked fish and shellfish. Guidelines for handling CAP fish, which differs in its handling requirements, are given separately in the Seafish Guidelines for the handling of fish packed in a controlled atmosphere. It is recommended that retailers handling other pre-packed fish, including vacuum packed and overwrapped fish, follow the CAP Guidelines. These guidelines have been produced from a scanned original and may therefore contain some formatting and other inaccuracies. In cases where this affects the technical content, a paper copy of the original report can still be obtained from Seafish. Whilst these guidelines contain helpful technical information some of the legislative content may now be out of date.
