Economics of Potential Systems for Farmed Production of Cod
Experimentation with the cultivation of cod has a history going back more than a century and the potential for developing commercial cod production has been the subject of a number of studies over the past 15 years. Most of these studies have concluded that production of cod does not appear viable in general under the most likely assumptions of performance and price in prospect at the time. However, the most recent report prepared by Nautilus draws much more favourable conclusions on the prospects for viability. -

Seafish response to A Strategy for Marine Nature Conservation in Scotland and Guidelines on the selection of MPAs and development of the MPA network
Seafish has produced a combined response to two Scottish consultations on the future of the Scottish marine environment. The consultations were on the draft Marine Nature Conservation Strategy for Scotland and on draft guidelines on the selection of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) and the development of the MPA network in the seas around Scotland. The original consultation papers can be found here: A Strategy for Marine Nature Conservation in Scotland: http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Topics/marine/marine-environment/Conservationstrategy/draftconstrategy Marine Protected Areas in the Seas around Scotland: http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Topics/marine/marine-environment/mpanetwork/draftmpaguide -

Algal mediated turbididity and larval performance in marine fish_Parts1and2
Green water’ techniques (i.e. the addition of microalgae to the culture tank) can be used to encourage the first feeding of fish larvae in marine hatcheries. The effects of algal turbidity on the visual foraging behaviour of larvae were assessed in trials by investigating the contrast between prey and the background lighting (Part 1 report & video clip). In subsequent trials, ‘green water’ had no significant effect on first feeding success of larval cod (Part 2). -
Design of a containerised biodiesel production plant
This report details work carried out in assembly of a prototype containerised batch production plant that is portable and suited to deployment quayside to support fishermen that wish to selfmanufacture biodiesel. The biodiesel batch plant has a maximum production capacity of approximately 210,000 litres per annum when working one shift and approximately 420,000 litres per annum with 24 hour working.
